The bronze statue at the main gate of the Saalburg has been restored

Since 1901, the bronze statue of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius has tirelessly welcomed all guests of the Saalburg Roman fort at the main gate, whatever the weather.

So it was time to assess its condition. Conservator Renate Frölich expertly cleaned the statue, carefully examined and documented its surface, and finally applied a protective coating.

In a fresh guise, Antoninus Pius now welcomes all visitors in style in the 125th anniversary year of the Saalburg.
