The Saalburg Roman fort is not just a reconstructed Roman military complex, but part of a staged landscape. In ancient times, the houses, temples and public buildings of the vicus, the camp village, surrounded the fort. Today the foundation walls of Roman buildings and replicas from the reconstruction period around 1900 can be seen. These include the sanctuary of Mithras, the grave house and the Jupiter column.
