ARCHEOLOGICAL PARK

The Saalburg Roman fort is not just a reconstructed Roman military complex, but part of a staged landscape. In ancient times, the houses, temples and public buildings of the vicus, the camp village, surrounded the fort. Today the foundation walls of Roman buildings and replicas from the reconstruction period around 1900 can be seen. These include the sanctuary of Mithras, the grave house and the Jupiter column.

Circular Route

The "Saalburg circular route" leads over a distance of 2.4 kilometres on partly asphalted forest paths around the Saalburg (walking time approx. 45 minutes). There are hidden archaeological monuments and vivid reconstructions of Roman houses, temples and sanctuaries to discover. They are all explained on information boards. The starting point is in front of the main entrance to the fort. The circular route can be visited free of charge without admission to the museum. Sturdy footwear is recommended.
