Großes Römerlager mit Reitern und Soldaten - 20 Jahre UNESCO-Welterbe

Large Roman camp with riders and soldiers – 20 years of UNESCO World Heritage

This weekend we are celebrating with international Roman groups, riders with their horses, colleagues from Limes research and all visitors, because together with the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes, the Saalburg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005.

The Roman groups and riders occupy the entire fort and set up their various camps. In demonstrations, they show one after the other how so many soldiers can carry out orders at the same time, the penetrating power of the guns and the special riding skills required in the Roman army.

In his lecture on Sunday, Dr. Kai Mückenberger (Limes Coordinator Hesse, State Office for Monument Preservation Hesse, hessenARCHÄOLOGIE) will provide an insight into current research on the Limes in Germany and Hesse.

The Saalburg team offers guided tours of the fort for Roman fans of all ages - and on this special occasion also to the Limes. The program is complemented by free hands-on activities, such as the opportunity to make your own lucky charm out of metal based on a Roman model.
