Roman cuisine has a firm place in the programme at the Saalburg on the Whitsun weekend. There are simple classic dishes such as "Moretum", a cream cheese with lots of herbs, or "Puls", the Roman cereal stew. Sophisticated recipes for main courses, appetisers and desserts were reserved for the upper classes. However, proper nutrition was also important for gladiators, the competitive athletes and show stars of the time. Who actually cooked in the gladiator camp and what was served? And how did the gladiators train and fight back then?

The I. Roemercohorte Opladen presents Roman cuisine in its impressive catering tent and at many other stations. The Gladiatores Berolinenses will demonstrate their martial arts in exhibition fights and give anyone interested the opportunity to try them out. So if you want to experience historical cookery and martial arts with all your senses and be inspired by them, you shouldn't miss this opportunity.
