More than bread and circuses: Theme day of cooking and martial arts
Roman cuisine has a firm place in the Saalburg's program during the Pentecost weekend. Simple dishes like "Moretum," a fresh cheese with many herbs, or "Puls," the Roman grain stew, are on offer. Discover the full range of Roman dishes, from provisions for soldiers on marches to fresh bread baked in clay dome ovens, all the way to more refined cuisine and desserts.
Nutrition also played an important role in the daily lives of gladiators. Which foods were part of the training regimen in ancient professional sports, and what were the requirements during training and combat?
The 1st Roman Cohort Opladen presents Roman cuisine in their impressive supply tent and at numerous other stations. The Gladiatores Berolinenses demonstrate their martial arts skills in exhibition fights and offer all interested parties the opportunity to try out a training session. The culinary program is complemented by a Stone Age cook who explains cooking with a cooking pit.
We invite you to a culinary journey through time for the whole family, with plenty of action.
