Wood Theme Day

It is probably no exaggeration to consider wood as the most important raw material in world history. It has been used throughout history for tools, equipment and weapons, but also for building simple huts or huge buildings. And last but not least, as an energy source for cooking, baking and heating, wood has been of enormous importance for the development and survival of humanity.

The Wood Theme Day examines a wide range of questions relating to this unique material. It shows how wood is worked with tools made of stone, bone, bronze and iron, what can be made from wood and, of course, how the Romans worked wood. Experts present special and rare wood finds as well as research methods that can be used to gain new insights from archaeological wood. They also explain modern aspects of wood, such as ideas on sustainable forestry and the forest as a habitat.

All in all, there is a varied program with lectures, demonstrations and many opportunities to try things out and get involved.
