Forest – yesterday – today – tomorrow. Wood use and sustainability
Ever since humans have existed, forests and wood have been used. This was no different in Roman times in Germania than it was in the late Middle Ages and today.
"Forest becomes wood, wood becomes culture" – that's the motto of the Wood Experience Center in Wettenberg-Wißmar, where forester and forest educator Rita Kotschenreuther from HessenForst works. In a roughly one-hour lecture, she takes participants on a journey through the times of forests and wood. What significance did the forest and its resources have in the past, how were they treated, and what does the term "sustainability" mean? Where does it come from, and what challenges do forests and society face today in changing circumstances?
