The Saalburg mourns the loss of Hans-Dieter Hillmoth

On March 23rd, the news of Hans-Dieter Hillmoth's death hit the employees of the Saalburg Roman fort suddenly and unexpectedly. Since 2019, Hillmoth has been chairman of the Saalburg Association. In this unfortunately far too short time, he played a decisive role in ensuring that the Saalburg was able to implement important projects despite the corona pandemic and continually offer visitors new attractions. An example of his tireless commitment is the completion of the new permanent exhibition in the Principia, which he always accompanied with curiosity, encouragement and enthusiasm. As chairman of the support association, his aim was to make the work of the Saalburg visible and tangible for people in the region and far beyond.

His positive personality, his accessibility, his open and warm approach, coupled with the high level of professionalism and the extensive connections that he brought with him from his many years as managing director and program director of the Radio/Tele FFH broadcasting group, made him a sought-after and highly valued contact person for all the smaller and larger needs of everyday museum life.

Hans-Dieter Hillmoth will be greatly missed by the Saalburg Roman Fort team as a friend and supporter.

Our deepest condolences go out to his wife and family.

Dr. Carsten Amrhein
Director of the Saalburg Roman Fort
